AUGUST 13, 2008  Maoist activists warned journalists in Pyuthan district of total elimination on Friday, August 8, 2008. A member of Maoist youth wing, Young Communist League (YCL), publicly announced such warning after the local newspapers covered YCL highhandedness on two activists of Nepali Congress a few days back. According to the information received by Freedom Forum, YCL member Ram Bahadur BK made such warning after the newspapers carried report about YCL attack on two members of Nepali Congress.

Freedom Forum deplores the incident of assaulting journalists on charge of carrying out own duty and urges CPN (Maoist) to mend its way and manner towards media workers. Without press freedom, no democracy and republic can sustain and peace process expedite ahead, the Forum concluded. The Forum demands with the government to come up with innovative measures to ensure protection of journalists so that they could work unhindered.
