Tipsy army person attacks journalist

Journalist of the Navasangra daily, Gopal Gupta, was attacked on July 22 evening by Nepal Army person in Siraha. Siraha lies in Province 2 in the southern plains of Nepal.

According to Rajan Kumar Singh, Freedom Forum’s representative for Province-2, Gupta was misbehaved and attacked while he was talking with his friends at a local Shahid Chowk, Lahan. "All of a sudden, tipsy Nepal Army person Bijay Gurung punched to me and attacked with helmet," said representative Singh quoting journalist Gupta. As a result, Gupta sustained injuries on his head. He had to get medical treatment for the injury.

As per information sent by FF representative, DSP Rajesh Thapa of area police station, said they would forward this case with the letter for necessary action against Gurung to the army office.

Freedom Forum strongly condemns the attack against the media person.It is sheer violation of press freedom. FF urges the concerned authority to investigate the incident and mete out action against tipsy soldier who without any reason attacked journalists.
