Journalist issued death threats

Freedom Forum has been dismayed to learn that journalists in Sindhupalchwok, a district near the capital city, were threatened of life over the news they wrote.

According to the information provided by Yuvraj Puri, reporter with the Annapurna Post daily, to the Freedom Forum's media monitoring desk, Dinesh Thapa, reporter with the Rajdhani daily, was issued death threat over phone regarding the news about acquisition of citizenship certificates by non-Nepalis.

Thapa was threatened repeatedly by a gang of Norsang Lama and Nawaraj Sen, main accused on the citizenship case. The gang said to reporter Thapa," Your will be killed very soon."

Freedom Forum vehemently condemns the incidents which have violated the rights of journalists and press freedom.

Therefore, the local administration needs to bring the culprits to book, and provide security to the journalists.
