Journalist Upadhyay Looted

Freedom Forum has been concerned over an incident occurred in Kathmandu on June 27, 2011.
Journalist Anil Upadhyay, associated with a television, News 24, was manhandled by an unknown gang of five persons at Maitidevi Chowk in the capital city while returning from the office late night.

"The gang looted my money, mobile and watch", said journo Upadhyay, adding, "The looters said they attacked me because I was a journalist."

The incident shows how miserable the situation is for the journalists in Nepal. A person is looted, manhandled and attacked all because he works as a journalist.

Freedom Forum expresses grave concern to the incident and urges the administration to search and identify the looters and bring them to book at the earliest. Moreover, Freedom Forum demands the government that it creates favourable environment for the journalists to carry out their works so as to protect people's right to information and promote media freedom in the country.
