A Deadly Attack on Media Worker

An unidentified group deadly attacked Manager of Kantipur Television, Raj Kumar Sedai with Khukri (knife) nearby vegetable grocery at New Baneshwor in the capital city Kathmandu on August 28, Thursday. Media worker Sedai was assaulted by three persons equipped with Khukri while he was en route to his office at Tinkune from own residence at Milanchowk. He sustained severe injuries on his right hand and stomach, and is being treated in Everest Nursing Home at Baneshwor.


“I was on the way to my office-Kantipur Complex; one of them all of a sudden obstructed my way and rest two indiscriminately attacked me with sharp knife”, said Sedai.

The assaulters also caused minor losses to his private car (Ba. 5 Cha. 5066). Media worker Sedai has been followed by an unknown group for the last four days, stated Kantipur, a national daily.

Freedom Forum deplores the incident and expresses its concern over the rising trend of press freedom violation across the country in the recent days. The Forum seriously draws the attention of the government to come up with security measures to curb such untoward incidents against journalists.

The Forum also asks the government to intensify investigation into the search of the guilty and take actions at the earliest.
