Morang, located in the eastern region of Nepal, is increasingly becoming the unsafe place for journalists to collect and publish news. The series of anti press incident is on the rise in this district since the last couple of months.

Durba Rijal, News Editor for Aba Daily being published from Morang was attacked on April 26 last time while reporting the news on smuggling along the border line of Nepal and India. Police had arrested two smugglers allegedly involved in assaulting journalist.

Morang lies along the boarder of Nepal and India and is a place where the incident of crime occurred frequently. So, Journalist journalists have to report on the crime related cases more and are being attacked by criminal gangs and groups.

Despite regular attack, threat and misbehavior to journalists, local administration has shown deaf ear to the rising number of violation of media rights. "Because of collaboration of local administration and police with criminal group, the administration does not take initiative to bring the guilty to book" blamed Gokul Parajuli, treasurer of FNJ district committee.

According to Morang-based journalists, local administration has been neglecting the issue of ensuring security to journalist.
