Reporter threatened over news

Sarlahi based reporter to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) and Sagarmath Television Shankar Pahadi has been receiving death threats for news published on September 3. Sarlahi lies in Madhesh Province of Nepal.

Reporter Pahadi shared with Freedom Forum that he had reported news about Department of Revenue Investigation sealing a warehouse of local businessman for evading tax.

“After publication of news on different media, warehouse's owner Santosh Sah and his close relatives started threatening to shoot me for mentioning Sah and his company's name,” Pahadi shared.

They have also posted abusive and misleading posts against reporter Pahadi on their social media pages.

The reporter also said that he lodged his complaint to District Police Office, Sarlahi through email.

Freedom Forum is concerned over the incident. Lately, FF has recorded increasing incidents where journalists are abused through social media for covering news. This is an absolute misuse of freedom of expression exercise.

FF strongly urges the concerned one to refute the media contents instead or go to Press Council Nepal and stop harassing journalist. The security authority is also urged to address the complaint and ensure safety of journalist.
