Unknown persons vandalize community radio station

An unknown group vandalized a community radio station in Dolakha yesterday (March 4). Dolakha lies in the Bagmati Province of Nepal.

The assailants broke Radio Bhimeshwor's antenna and tower worth approximately three lakhs.

Talking to Freedom Forum station manager Rabindra Gautam said that he neither recognizes the attackers nor knows the reason for attack. The radio service is, however, continued with the help of single 100-watt antenna, he said.

We have reported to the police about the incident, their investigation is ongoing, he informed.

The incident has directly affected 12 media persons including two females working in the radio.

Freedom Forum condemns the attack upon media house leading to obstruction of its operation. In the local communities, radio is the most accessible form of media. Such incidents violate citizen's right to free access to information.

Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to fairly investigate the case, punish the attackers and ensure the continuation of radio service.
