Municipal chief misbehave with RTI activist Yadav in Dhanusha

Sudeep Yadav, a citizen from Mithilabihari municipality, Dhanusha was misbehaved for requesting information at the municipality office on June 30. Dhanusha lies in Province 2 of Nepal.

According to FF's representative Rajan Singh, Yadav had requested information about details on completed projects, cost estimates, and criteria for construction of highway using RTI on June 15.

On the day of incident, Yadav had reached municipal chief's office after he did not receive information where Mayor Anil Kumar Yadav, Deputy Mayor Anita Sah and office chief Birendra Lal Karn misbehaved with him saying they cannot give him any information and ordered Yadav to leave the office.

Yadav further informed that earlier too, he had received incomplete information from the municipality.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident as it sheer violation of citizen's right to information. Public offices are bound to provide information on public issues requested by citizens through RTI which is also guaranteed in Nepal's constitution. Hence, FF urges the municipal authority to apologize for the misbehavior and provide the required information to Yadav thus ensuring citizen's access to information.
