More than Six Journalists Attacked during Reporting

More than half a dozen Journalists who went to Budwal based in Kavre Banepa Municipality Ward No. 6 to collect news were attacked by the Ward Chairperson Sachida Nanda K.C. Journalists along with Prakash Chandra Dahal associated with Nepal Pukar Online TV had been attacked by K.C's group on Dec. 5th, 2019. Kavre lies in Province 3.

K.C's group took away their Mic and obstructed them from taking videos for the purpose of the News Report. They injured Ramesh Kumar one of the journalists who also went for reporting. Likewise, the camera belonging to Program Committee member of the Federation of Nepal Journalist Ram Chandra Dulal is still in K.C's custody. Additionally, Journalist Sibi Khadka associated with SankalpaKhabar.com had been abused with his purse and ring being seized. Other reporters belonging to Chito Online TV managed to escape the scene and avoided possible injury from hostility.

Journalists attacked merely for reporting the news is against the notion of press freedom. Right to Information is citizen's fundamental right ensured by the constitution. It is the citizen's right to get access to information on public importance issues. Hence, FF urges the concerned authority to take action and ensure a safe environment for reporting.
