Journalist from News 24, Surya Baral, was briefly detained by the police while taking a picture in the premises of District Police Office in Chitwan on October 17, 2019. Chitwan lies in Province 3.
Talking to FF, Journalist Baral shared that he was detained briefly by the police and pressed to delete the image from the camera. According to Baral, DSP Ganesh Poudel ordered to detain him and asked to delete the image.
Freedom Forum condemns the incident because journalists are free to take a picture of the public place. So the brief control is the violation of press freedom. Hence, FF urges the concerned authority to ensure a safe environment for journalists.
